This is an average product at best, and even that’s probably a stretch. There are too many issues and red flags with this product. There are MUCH BETTER testosterone boosters on the market that don’t have any of the issues this product does.
Why Consider A Testosterone Booster?
Testosterone is a hormone that both men and women produce naturally, though women usually produce much lower amounts. Adequate levels of testosterone are crucial to men’s health regardless of their age, but low amounts can be especially troubling as a man grows older.
A chronically low level of testosterone is called “Low T,” a medical condition that can contribute to insomnia, decreased sexual function, and depression. There was a time when decreased testosterone was the inevitable result of the aging process, but scientific advances have made it possible for men to regain their former, healthy levels and live more active and fulfilling lives.
Younger men also sometimes need to increase the levels of testosterone in their bloodstream, usually because of naturally lower amounts or in pursuit of their health and fitness goals. But whatever your reasons are, there’s plenty of authentic, non-prescription help out there if you need to boost your testosterone levels.
Which Testosterone Booster is Right for You?
Whether you’re interested in sports nutrition, bodybuilding, improved sexual function, or just overall male fitness, you might be considering how a testosterone booster can help in your process. If so, you’re probably learning just how many options exist out there and wondering which one, if any, are right for you.
Generally speaking, a testosterone booster is a supplement that works with your body’s resources to produce and maintain adequate levels of this important hormone in your bloodstream. Low T can also be treated medically with hormone replacement drugs prescribed by your physician.
But although hormone replacement drugs are often very effective, they are accompanied by a host of unpleasant or frightening side effects such as aggression, agitation, sleeplessness, and digestive problems. This is one reason that many men prefer to use something that increases their testosterone more naturally. And this is where testosterone boosters come into the picture.
The consensus on testosterone boosters, at least as an overall category, is that they can be very effective in many ways. The best testosterone boosters have been shown to work very well. Along with a proper diet and a workout regimen, they have been shown to increase testosterone levels substantially.
They help you build muscle mass, increase stamina, and significantly reduce recovery time. The question is: which ones are actually the best and which ones are nothing but hype?
Our Criteria For This Nugenix Review
Our job is to inform you about which testosterone boosters actually accomplish what they claim to in the thousands of ads you see online every day. Here are the criteria we use to assess the relative value of testosterone boosters. You can use the information you find here to aid in your own research and find the product that’s best for you.
In all of our testosterone booster reviews, we examine the science behind the ingredients, the purported benefits or side effects, the dosages of the ingredients, and online user reviews to come up with the most rigorous conclusions possible. Then we’ll explain to you how each testosterone booster, and in this case, Nugenix measures up to the claims manufacturers make about their effectiveness.
This review will focus exclusively on Nugenix, one of the most well-known testosterone boosters out there, and it will tell you everything you need to know about this incredibly popular product and help you decide if it’s the right fit for you.
A quick peek at the label will you tell you what ingredients Nugenix has. To start with, Nugenix contains zinc, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin B12. This is a pretty good start, especially considering the well-proven testosterone enhancing benefits of vitamins B6 and B12.
And if you don’t already know this, zinc has been clinically proven to increase levels of testosterone significantly. It’s especially helpful in increasing libido, sperm count, and sexual performance in general. There’s no question that zinc works. That’s why it’s one of the first ingredients you should look for in a testosterone booster.
In addition to zinc and the two B Vitamins, Nugenix also contains something called “The Nugenix Testosterone Complex.” This is a proprietary blend of fenugreek extract (Testofen). L-Citrulline Malate, and Tribulus Terrestris. But what are these three ingredients and how effective are they for boosting testosterone?
Fenugreek is a herb that’s used in many different world cuisines, but its extract performs important health functions. In its extract form, fenugreek has been associated with boosting testosterone significantly by being a strong anti-estrogenic. It has been shown in clinical trials (1) to increase sexual performance and help increase muscle mass as well. To sum up, fenugreek extract is an important ingredient in many well-rated testosterone boosting supplements.
Testofen is the main ingredient in Nugenix that directly boosts testosterone, while the Citrulline and Tribulus Terrestris may have some benefits like increased blood flow or enhanced libido, they don’t have any science that says they have a testosterone boosting capabilities. So, only 1 out 3 ingredients in “The Nugenix Testosterone Complex” actually is a proven testosterone booster. That’s not good.
Nugenix Uses a “Proprietary Blend.” What exactly does this mean?
We know two things about the ingredients in Nugenix. We know that there are six total ingredients, and only four out the six are proven to have any testosterone boosting capabilities. Now we encounter a bit of a problem when we try to find out the exact amount of these ingredients that Nugenix contains.
The exact amounts are unknown because Nugenix uses what is known as a “proprietary blend” of Testofen, Citrulline, and Tribulus. Typically, the FDA requires that all supplements list their ingredients and the exact amounts. This is not the case with a proprietary blend, which is only required to list the total amount of the ingredients, not the individual amounts.
In the case of Nugenix, we only know that the total content of the three key testosterone boosting ingredients is 2,103 mg. And although this doesn’t have to be a complete deal breaker every time, it definitely makes it much more difficult to recommend this product as a reviewer or buy this product as a consumer.
Dosages of individual ingredients matter. That’s how we’re able to accurately determine what level of testosterone boosting effectiveness a product has or doesn’t have. In the Nugenix proprietary blend, (which we learned actually only has one ingredient that is proven to boost testosterone) how do we know how milligrams of the 2,103 mg total is allotted to Testofen? We don’t. That’s why proprietary blends are usually the achilles heel of most products, as it is with this Nugenix product.
This does not mean that the Nugenix proprietary blend is harmful in any way. However, it inspires no confidence in its ability to actually boost testosterone because you don’t know how much of the single test boosting ingredient there is in the blend.
Does Nugenix Work?
Obviously we can’t personally test every testosterone booster for 3 months and give that kind of feedback. We do personally some of them, and the ones we don’t personally test, we go to scientific research, market product reviews, and customer testimonials & feedback.
In this case, the science tells us that given what we know, this product is probably weak. It only has six total ingredients, and only four of them actually have been proven to boost testosterone levels in any way. The main testosterone boosting proprietary blend only has one ingredient proven to boost testosterone.
Of the 4 total test boosting ingredients, the three showing dosage levels tell us that they are terribly underdosed. Only 1 mg of zinc? Why even bother? By comparison, our Top 3 Testosterone Boosters of this year have an average of 37x the amount of zinc that Nugenix does.
There’s not much to get excited about with Nugenix at this point. It has few test boosting ingredients, underdosed ingredients, and a proprietary blend with no dosage information and only one ingredient proven to boost testosterone.
All the signs are pointing to this not being a top contender for sure.
Our last hope was to check customer reviews and see what kind of feedback Nugenix was getting from real customers who had purchased the product.
We looked at the Amazon reviews and saw that out of over 600 reviews, the average rating for Nugenix was 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Given what we know about the product, we actually were surprised that the Nugenix reviews were as high as they were. If you go by the Amazon reviews, customers felt that the product was slightly above average. It also looks like an almost equal percentage of customers either loved it or hated it.
Nugenix Side Effects
None of the ingredients in the Nugenix formulation would raise a red flag of concern as it relates to negative side effects.
If you read the sample of Nugenix reviews we included in this review, one man talked about getting “horrible headaches” and having “extreme sleepiness”.
To be fair to Nugenix, we have done many reviews of fitness supplements that have the various ingredients included in Nugenix, and we’ve never heard of anyone dealing with any negative side effects like that.
Our Conclusions About Nugenix
The short version of what we’ve concluded about the quality of Nugenix is that looks to be an average product as far as it goes. It contains low amounts of B Vitamins and zinc for starters. It contains only one effective test boosting ingredient in the Nugenix® Free Testosterone Complex. It contains a proprietary blend with no dosage information for the ingredients in the complex (blend).
The user reviews we’ve read seem to share our overall assessment of Nugenix. When you look at the average of the reviews, you had some people who loved it, some who hated it, and then some in between. Kind of what you’d expect from an average product.
We did have to conclude that the proprietary blend was a significant drawback to using Nugenix. In addition to being a problem just on principle, the uncertainty involved makes it difficult for users to make relative assessments of the different ingredients’ effectiveness. For instance, with a proprietary blend, it’s impossible to know what you need more or less of if the product isn’t quite working properly.
Because of this uncertainty, along with the fact that there are MUCH better testosterone boosters available out there, we give Nugenix an average score for overall effectiveness.
It would certainly be worth your while to keep researching and find a testosterone booster that fits your needs exactly and really produces OUTSTANDING RESULTS!
