What is L-TheanineAn Amino Acid that acts as a building block for protein, L-Theanine is found in green tea leaves. Over the years, it has grown in popularity due to the nootropic benefits it provides. It is said that it helps with memory, ability to absorb new information and help to calm you more.
L-Theanine or otherwise known as Theanine, helps to increase dopamine levels. Increased levels of dopamine result in improved mood and more stamina and endurance during training. It is also able to stimulate the amount of neurotransmitters that are produced, aiding in improving cognitive functions.
It is common knowledge that certain teas such as Green tea and Oolong tea help you to relax. This is because they contain L-Theanine. It is this that helps increase the dopamine levels and serotonin levels in the brain. If you didn’t know, this is the “feel good” chemical. If you find you are stressed or have some form of anxiety, L-Theanine can really help.
L-Theanine is also one of the supplements that is recommended, if suffering from memory diseases. Often it is given to those suffering from Alzheimer’s and Dementia, due to its ability at enhancing cognitive functions. Over the years it has been shown that it can also help people that have a healthy brain, to improve memory and the ability to learn new things easier. One of the reasons why it is so effective is because it can reach the brain directly, as it can cross the blood-brain barrier.
Typically benefits seen from using L-Theanine include;
- Improves Memory
- Boost Cognitive Functions
- Increases The Ability To Learn New Things
- Reduces Stress Levels
- Lowers Anxiety Levels
- Increases Dopamine and Serotonin Levels
A common combination is mixing 200mg of L-Theanine with 100mg of Caffeine. I personally try to limit my caffeine intake so I do look to use it without. You can still see some impressive cognitive benefits, even when not using with caffeine. If you are new to L-Theanine, you might want to start off with 100mg. I would recommend having no more than 250mg on a daily basis.
L-Theanine Side Effects
In very rare cases some people have reported headaches or dizziness, when combined with caffeine. This is understandable due to the increases energy rush. Overall though L-Theanine is known to be very safe. It has been approved and designated as a safe ingredient by the FDA in the United States.
I am not medically trained. If you do take any medication or have any health conditions, I would recommend consulting a doctor first.
L-Theanine And Caffeine
The combination of L-Theanine and Caffeine is a well-known nootropic combination, many beginners to Nootropics do use the two together. It is popular as the two work in synergy with each other, they basically compliment one another. Salt and Pepper are a pair on your dinner plate, L-Theanine and Caffeine are the same as a nootropic 🙂
No doubt after you have had a good cup of coffee, you will feel increased attention, focus and a boost in concentration. The drawback is the increased blood pressure, heart rate and the risk of jitteriness. The reason we combine L-Theanine with caffeine is that it helps to reduce heart rate and the blood pressure. It also helps to promote calmness and thus reduce the jitters.
I have received a number of questions regarding Theanine, I thought I would answer those questions below. If you do have any please feel free to post in the comments and ill answer them as quickly as possible.
Can I Buy L-Theanine on Amazon?
Yes it is possible to buy L-Theanine on Amazon, from a number of different companies. The price does vary. I would personally recommend not just purchasing the one nootropic ingredient, instead I would suggest looking into a stack. A good quality supplement that combines different nootropics, will result in some excellent improvements.
Do you suffer from Anxiety, panic attacks or depression? If so L-Theanine could help. It has been proven effective to help these by many researchers and users of it. Anxiety and conditions like it are caused by chemical processes in the brain, the degree of anxiety does vary. L-Theanine helps to reduce the effects of Anxiety as well as also helping those that suffer from depression.
The reason this ingredient helps with Anxiety is because it helps to produce certain neurochemicals that combat anxiety. Chemicals such as serotonin that helps to calm the user. Beta waves in the brain is what causes fear and anxiety, as Theanine helps produce alpha waves, it is a great option to treat depression and anxiety.
L-Theanine and Sleep
L-theanine is one of those ingredients that might be prescribed to those that do suffer from sleep apnea. Even if you do not suffer from sleep apnea but have trouble sleeping, this ingredient can really help. It promotes calmness and helps to reduce blood pressure, thus making it easier for you to sleep.
L-Theanine Vs Suntheanine
You may have heard about Suntheanine when researching Theanine and confused between the two. Suntheanine is another brand that is produced by a Tea manufacture in Japan. It is not as old and has not been used as long as L-Theanine but it has started to get a lot of publicity.
The truth is both are just as effective as each other, one is not better than the other. They both help with anxiety, calmness and improving focus/concentration. The main difference is that Suntheanine tends to be more expensive, by about 30%. Personally I would stick with Theanine. Its cheaper and is just as effective.
Where To Buy L-Theanine
As mentioned it is possible to buy it on Amazon as well as other stores such as eBay, GNC etc. I would personally consider a nootropic supplement, as these tend to combine a number of nootropic ingredients for the best results. Many of which doe contain L-Theanine as it has been proven to work.
L-Theanine Stacks – Nootropic Supplements
Just taking Theanine on its own or with caffeine can give you some incredible results. I do however recommend stacking it with other ingredients for more effective and quicker benefits. The problem is what should you stack it with? There are so many options. There are many nootropic supplements that have been manufactured that do combine L-Theanine, along with some other incredible ingredients. Ingredients that have been proven to offer improved cognitive function.
Not all of these supplements are created equally though, there are some poor quality products out there. Some that might have decent ingredients but just don’t provide enough dosage of them. These are often hidden behind a proprietary blend. We have spent several years learning about key nootropic ingredients and reviewing many of the nootropic pills on the market.
Below you will be able to find out how we review these products, as well as what we feel are some of the best nootropic supplements. If you are looking for a product that has been proven to give effective results, take a look at our reviews.
