Here at BulkingTime.com we've been on a mission for men as it relates to testosterone. In many of our posts, we've shown that today's modern man is facing a serious crises with lowered overall testosterone levels and declining testosterone rates faster than we've ever seen in history.
So we're hitting this crisis hard from every angle possible. We expose the different areas in a man's life that is stealing his testosterone, and we also inform men about what scientifically proven things he can do to not only stop the decline of testosterone in his own body, but actually INCREASE testosterone levels so more healthy and vibrant levels...naturally!
With that in mind, today we're going to talk about Mucuna Pruriens, and we're going to explore all the potential benefits of this natural compound, and see how it specifically relates to testosterone levels.
What Is Mucuna Pruriens
Mucuna Pruriens is also called Velvet Bean. It is a vine bean plant that grows in India and also in tropical regions of Africa and the Caribbean.
The reason it is called the Velvet bean is due to the thin velvet-like hairs that grow and cover the outside of the bean pod.
A couple of other names that Mucuna Pruriens is known to go by are Cowhage (English) and Kapikacchu (Sanskrit).
It turns out in doing the research on Mucuna Pruriens, it has actually been used for all kinds of remedies and cures for a long time. The number of benefits that have been scientifically proven now, are quite amazing. We'll touch on what some of those other benefits are in a bit, but for now, let's look at what the connection is between Mucuna Pruriens and testosterone.
Mucuna Pruriens and Testosterone
As it relates specifically to testosterone, the core aspect of Mucuna Pruriens that makes it so beneficial to increasing your T is the fact that it is one of the richest and most potent forms of L-DOPA (levodopa).
So what does that mean? Well, it turns out that just like luteinizing hormone (LH) is a precursor to increasing testosterone, L-Dopa is a precursor to the release of dopamine. The release of dopamine is responsible for many of the benefits associated with Mucuna Pruriens, and one the things that dopamine does is it makes the androgen receptors more active and it increases testosterone synthesis by stimulating the gonadatropin hormone (GnRH) in the hypothalamus.
The main human study that really showed the testosterone increasing effects of Mucuna Pruriens was this this one. This was a study of a combination of fertile men and infertile men, and as part of the study, they were each given 5g of Mucuna Pruriens for a 90-day period of time.
The results of the study showed that testosterone levels increased in the group of infertile men by 38%. It also showed that luteinizing hormone, which is a precursor to increased testosterone, was increased by 41% in this same group.
In the group of healthy non-infertile men, the results were also positive. This group showed an increase in testosterone levels by 27% and it also showed their LH levels increase by 23%.
In this study of 180 infertile men, they were also given Mucuna Pruriens, and as far as their testosterone levels are concerned, they showed the exact same increase of 38% as the other study above.
Finally, in another study of 32 men, they were given 600 mg of L-Dopa, and the study stated: "There were statistically significant differences (increases) in the change in free testosterone level"
The medical research and science is pretty clear that Mucuna Pruriens not only has a myriad of other health benefits that we'll take a quick look at, but it also is a powerful natural testosterone booster.
If that wasn't enough to get you excited about Mucuna Pruriens, just check out some of the other benefits it provides.
Additional Benefits of Mucuna Pruriens
The connection to dopamine and the fact that the bean itself has such a high level of antioxidant activity make Mucuna Pruriens offer may other additional benefits on top of boosting testosterone naturally.
- Reduced symptoms of Parkinson's Disease
- Has been shown to be an effective natural anti-depressant
- Has been shown to reduce stress
- Has been shown to help treat male infertility
- Has been shown to decrease Prolactin levels
- Has been shown to improve cognitive and neural functions (brain health)
- Has been shown to increase libido
- Promotes healthy motor skills & coordination
- Helps promote healthy digestive function
This is just one of those supplements where even if it didn't increase testosterone, there are so many other additional benefits you get that it would still be worth taking on a regular basis!
Side Effects Of Mucuna Pruriens
In my research of Mucuna Pruriens, I found no evidence of any major or notable side effects.
The most amount of information I found were with regards to handling the velvet been plant. Apparently, the the hair-like fibers on the plant can cause some pretty severe itching. This is due to the 5-hydroxytryptamine that is in the flesh of the plant. However, this is not an issue once the MP has been extracted from the plant.
That's really about it. It also goes without saying that if you're taking any other kinds of medications, you want to check with your doctor first to make sure there are no issues in that regard.
Supplementing With Mucuna Pruriens
If you're looking to really increase your testosterone, then I would recommend you supplement with a really good testosterone booster.
The advantage of going with a testosterone booster is that you will get 8-12 different testosterone boosting ingredients that will work synergistically with each other to give you even greater results by attacking the problem from all different angles.
It just happens that our #1 Recommended Testosterone Booster of this year, Prime Male, has Mucuna Pruriens as one of it's major core ingredients. Again, this is our top rated testosterone booster. It's got the highest quality chelate and citrate forms of ingredients meaning that it is absorbed by the body 20x-75x over non-citrate and non-chelate forms of ingredients, so it's like you're getting a "concentrated form of ingredients" which give you even better measurable results!
If you're not really interested in a natural testosterone booster, and you just want to look at possibly supplementing with just Mucuna Pruriens, then we would recommend:
Whether you get Mucuna Pruriens as part of a powerful testosterone booster solution or just by itself, there are so many benefits to this natural compound that you would be doing nothing but giving your body a lot of health goodness by choosing to add this supplement to your diet.
