Today's Modern Man Has A Serious Problem

We're going to talk about the benefits of Zinc, and especially how it can also affect testosterone levels.
What Is Zinc?
Zinc is actually considered a "transition metal", you'll see it on the periodic table of elements as Zn.
Zinc is super important because without it, we would not survive. It's one of 24 critically important minerals needed to keep us alive and kicking.
The body doesn't produce zinc on its own, nor does it store it. The only way you can get Zinc into your body is through the foods you eat or through some sort of supplementation.
Zinc is deeply connected to the health of reproductive systems as well supporting DNA synthesis and healthy growth. It is also known to regulate more than 100 different enzymes, and it is involved in a whole host of cellular metabolic activities.

But how does Zinc affect the specific problem of declining and low testosterone levels?
The science proves that Zinc is actually in incredibly powerful and potent natural testosterone booster.
Zinc Increases Testosterone and Blocks Estrogen Production
What we know from the latest scientific research is that Zinc is one of the most important micronutrients as it relates to testosterone levels. What the medical research shows is that Zinc increases testosterone levels in men especially when they are deficient in the mineral.
So on the off chance that you happen to be firing on all cylinders from a Zinc level perspective, you probably won't notice as much of a boost in testosterone as most other men who are likely deficient in Zinc.
Here's the thing though, even if you do have healthy levels of Zinc and only experience a marginal bump in T (which ever bump helps), the science says that you will also experience an increase in dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is sometimes referred to as the "big brother of testosterone" because it has a much higher level of androgenic activity than it's "little brother" testosterone and it is significantly more potent.
In this study, Zinc was given to 37 infertile men for a period of 6 months. In this study, the men who started the study with testosterone levels less than 480 ng/dL experienced a marked improvement in testosterone levels and DHT levels. The men who started the study at T levels higher than 480 ng/dL didn't really experience the increase in testosterone levels like the other men did, but they did also experience the increase in DHT.
Having said this, it's important to point out that too much Zinc is not good either. If you get too much Zinc, you can experience lowered levels of copper, lowered immune functions, and lowered levels of the good cholesterol (HDL). Not only that, but you can experience bad side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, severe stomach cramps, and headaches.
How much is too much?
You need about 15 mg a day just to maintain the status quo of the your important endocrine system functions. Personally, I supplement with 50 mg of Zinc each day.
I've also seen a study where they gave mega doses of Zinc (250 mg) to to patients suffering from chronic renal failure (a condition typically linked to depleted zinc levels) and they showed significant increases in testosterone, zinc, and luteinizing hormone levels, but this was obviously a unique circumstance and not recommended. If you do end up taking larger doses of Zinc than say 50 mg a day, than you might want to think about supplementing with copper as well since an excess in Zinc can cause a depletion in copper. The idea is to keep a 10:1 ratio. Take 1 mg of copper for every 10 mg of Zinc you take.
Bottom line, long term studies (2-4 months) show that mega dosing with a 100 mg of Zinc daily appears to be safe if you can handle it. Again, the best way to do this, if you choose to, is to supplement with copper at a 10:1 ratio.
