How Magnesium Increases Testosterone

The Quest To Combat The Problem

The problem we're trying to solve for is the fact that men's testosterone levels are lower on average than men of past generations, even men of just 20-30 years ago. In fact men of today have an average of 20% less testosterone than men in the 80's and 90's. Testosterone levels are declining faster and at earlier ages than any other time in modern history.

CNN Report: Men Have Less Testosterone Than They Used To

cnn reported that testosterone levels were lower

"Researchers can’t measure swagger – but they can measure testosterone, the male sex hormone most responsible for masculine behaviors – and studies show that testosterone levels in men have been on the decline for decades.

Two major studies have confirmed the phenomenon, one in U.S. men and another in Danish men. In the U.S. study, the total testosterone levels measured in men’s blood dropped approximately 22% between 1987 and 2004.

Of course testosterone levels drop as men get older, but what makes the study shocking is that men today actually have less testosterone than men used to have at the same age."

Needless to say that we have a very serious problem on our hands, and it's one that we've dedicated a lot of time and resources to solving. Our mission is to arm men all over the world with the information they need to not only shed light on the problem, but more importantly, to provide the tools and solutions to combat the problem and get their testosterone levels back to healthy and vibrant levels.

We research and share scientifically proven ways to increase testosterone naturally. We look for ways to make modifications either in our diet, exercise, lifestyle, or environment that make make a measurable difference in our testosterone levels.

Today, we're going to talk about how Magnesium can increase your testosterone levels.

Magnesium and Testosterone

When I first heard about the connection between testosterone and Magnesium, I started to research it, and I was surprised at how influential and important to the body Magnesium really is.

It controls hundreds of enzyme functions, over 300 different bodily functions, and is the 11th most abundant mineral in the entire human body. I had always been under the impression that Magnesium role mostly centered around heart and bone health, but it turns out it's much more than that, including the fact that it help increase testosterone.

How? It does it by blocking SHBG levels and freeing up free testosterone molecules that were bound to the glycoprotein.

According to one human study, roughly a gram of magnesium given to athletes results in 24% increase in free-testosterone levels. Optimal magnesium status has also been found to correlate significantly with higher testosterone levels in observational studies (study, study)

Magnesium Increases Testosterone

It turns out that Magnesium is similar to Zinc and Vitamin D in that if you're deficient in them, your testosterone levels will drop. This is an example of why I preach about finding a natural testosterone booster with a minimum of 5 core proven ingredients. Not only do multiple ingredients work together to create a more powerful T boosting effect, but chances are you are deficient in multiple critical natural compounds.

This study shows that almost 70% of the adults in the United States don't get the daily recommended amount of Magnesium. Now if you happen to be in that small percentage of the population that gets ample Magnesium, then the testosterone boosting effects will be less measurable for this one mineral. The other thing to keep in mind is that magnesium evaporates from the body through sweat, so if you're working out or if you live or work in temperatures that are hot, you're probably sweating a lot of your magnesium right out of your body without even knowing it.

Here's some information from a few different scientific studies showing the testosterone boosting effect of magnesium.

There is molecule called SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) that can bind to free testosterone which, in effect, makes it unavailable or non-usable for the body. This study showed how magnesium can actually free up bound testosterone by inhibiting SHBG and making it unavailable for the receptors.

Here's a study of 400 older men where they found that men with higher serum magnesium levels also had higher testosterone levels.

Here's another study that found evidence that magnesium has a measurable positive impact on anabolic hormonal status, and that it increases testosterone in men.

Clearly, the medical science and research is there to support the fact that magnesium is, in fact, a good natural testosterone booster.

Along with being a good testosterone booster, magnesium also provides additional benefits.

Major Bodily Functions That Require Magnesium

  • Testosterone production
  • Protein synthesis
  • Nerve function
  • Blood sugar control
  • Neurotransmitter release
  • Blood pressure regulation
  • Energy metabolism
  • Production of the antioxidant glutathione

Health Challenges Linked To Magnesium Deficiency

  • Testosterone imbalance
  • Heart attack
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Constipation
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Osteoporosis
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Tension or migraine headaches

So you can see that magnesium is extremely important to critical body functions including testosterone production. BMC Bioinformatics indicated that your body has 3, 751 magnesium binding sites. That means that our bodies are using magnesium for all kinds of critical bodily functions. This is one important mineral!

How To Get More Magnesium

There are basically two different ways to get more magnesium in our bodies. One way is through supplementation and the other way is through the foods we eat.

Getting Magnesium Through Supplementation

If you've got issues with any level of low low testosterone, then I would recommend one of our Top 3 Testosterone Boosters this year. Two out of our top 3 recommendations not only have magnesium, but they also have a total of 8-12 other scientifically proven ingredients to boost testosterone. The two that have magnesium are:

If you're just looking only for magnesium to supplement with, then I would recommend the follow magnesium supplement because it's the higher quality Citrate form which means that it will be absorbed by the body at a much higher rate.

Getting Magnesium Through Foods

The most natural way to get the proper level of Magnesium is through the foods you eat. The problem is that most people don't know what the best foods are that contain the highest levels magnesium. So with that in mind, here are some of the best foods containing magnesium.
